Award winning around the world

The HR 40 was presented with an alternative classic layout at the Open House weekend in Ellös in August 2005. The new interior offers a wider saloon and headroom in the walk through to the aft cabin. The toilet room forward of the saloon has a separate shower. Floor is in one level throughout the boat and the galley is seagoing. The mast support comes in direct conjunction with the main bulkhead.

The HR 40 has won no less than four attractive awards:
- In January 2003 she was presented European Yacht of the Year in the largest category
- Overall winner in Boat of the Year in USA 2004
- Best Liveaboard cruising boat in USA 2004
- Sailboat of the Show in Stockholm November 2002

The Sailboat of the Show jury says:

“The Hallberg-Rassy 40 is a long distance cruiser of highest quality from the Swedish island Orust. The boat is the result of the yard’s long experience in boatbuilding.
This has in the Hallberg-Rassy 40 been further developed to a discrete elegance. Without looking at trends, this is a modern yacht built to highest standards in respect of equipment and comfort.”

Some examples in comparison to her predecessor the Hallberg-Rassy 39:

  • Frers latest know how in for example hull, rudder and keel design, with considerable longer waterline.

  • A touch lower freeboard and just a bit higher superstructure, to get greater window area thus a better view.

  • Flush mounted skylights in forward and aft cabins.

  • New contemporary interior design, as in the Hallberg-Rassy 43, with mahogany locker doors with elegantly milled edges and ventilation on top.

  • 22 cm / 9'' better headroom in the walk through to the aft cabin.

  • The aft section has considerably more volume, which means a more airy aft cabin and, for those who like, the possibility to fit a centre island berth, with seats on either side.

  • Separate shower stall with plexi glass doors. Wash basin in Corian.

  • Better seating comfort in the cockpit, thanks to anatomical angling of the backrest.

  • Easier step in to the cockpit due to a step that is also the base for the genoa sheet winches. This eliminates the footblocks and thus gives less friction when sheeting the genoa in.

  • Raymarine ST 60 Speed, Depth and Wind is now standard equipment.

  • Holding tank, to be emptied from deck or out to sea, is included as standard.

  • As an option, it is possible to fly an asymmetric spinnaker from the mast head, to a removable bow sprit.

Improvements 2008

For new orders, there are a lot of improvements:

  • Engine: Volvo Penta D2-55. Higher power and larger alternator: 115 A

  • More powerful transmission; hydraulic, for extended service life

  • More elegant entrance ladder with curved steps and curved side panels

  • More elegant ceiling handholds with softer lines

  • New design for the carpet, with something of the beautiful teak / holly floor visible

  • A mixer will be installed on the hot water calorifier, giving both more safety and improved comfort

  • Battery capacity improved from 225 Ah to 235 Ah
